How the formula works
Percentage value = number x percentage / 100. For example, 20% of 80 is 80 x 20 / 100 = 16.
Example
Use 10%, 20% and 25% as quick anchor checks. If the calculator says 25% of 120 is 30, you can use that result to check a discount, tip or progress target.
Common mistake
A percentage is relative to the starting number. A change from 50 to 60 is not the same as a change from 500 to 510, even though both increase by 10.
