Dice Probability Calculator

Check the chance of hitting a dice total before the next board-game argument starts.

How it works

The calculator counts every possible roll combination for the dice you enter. For two standard dice there are 36 possible ordered outcomes, so a total of 7 appears more often than a total of 2.

Formula

Probability = winning outcomes / total outcomes. Total outcomes = sides raised to the number of dice.

Example

With two six-sided dice, there are 36 ordered outcomes. Six of those add to 7, so the exact probability of rolling 7 is 6 / 36, or about 16.67%.

Common mistake

Totals are not equally likely when you roll more than one die. Middle totals usually have more combinations than edge totals.
